September 20 began the Jewish Holiday of the Feast of Tabernacles, aka Harvest/Ingathering. This is the third in the series of major feasts/holidays on the Jewish calendar.
The first is Passover/First Fruits. You can see more here.
The second is Pentecost/Happy Birthday Church. You can see more here.
Feast of Tabernacles is when the Jewish people are to construct a temporary shelter in which to dwell as a reminder of their time in the wilderness. But did you know it is mentioned in the New Testament?
"And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth" - John 1:14
The word dwelt here is used 4 other times.... all in Revelation. Meaning: to tent or encamp, to occupy, to reside, abide. You can look it up for yourself with the Blue Letter Bible app or in Strong's Concordance.
Another name for this time is Feast of Ingathering which celebrates the final reaping of the crops at the end of the harvest. See Exodus 23:16.
There are quite a few good articles/websites that have more in depth study on this holiday. Here's a few of them:
- Amir Tsarfati from Behold Israel: The True Meaning of Sukkot (The Feast of Tabernacles).
- Chosen People Ministries: The Feast of Tabernacles
- Sam Nadler of Word of Messiah Ministries: Sukkot: An Encouraging Perspective.
There are two holidays that proceed Tabernacles/Ingathering. They are Trumpets and Day of Atonement. You can read more here from Chosen People Ministries. You can search the site of the others I've listed and will likely have plenty of reading for a while.
Studying the Biblical Holidays will bring your Bible into color....
